artist statement

“My work is heavily inspired by physical objects or figures that often hold sentimental value. I seek out ways to express their significance to a wider audience, which typically means aiming for relatability.

I tend to gravitate toward emotionally driven subjects. My work that depicts a sentient figure is oftentimes portrayed in a peaceful or memorable way. I tend to work based off real-life experiences, either stemming from my own or that of my family’s. Many of my still-lifes contain objects that are soft, feminine, or otherwise visually appealing. Rather than painting directly from life, I am also currently experimenting with different painting techniques to further my narrative, such as including more gestural mark-making and varying thickness of paint.

My ultimate goal an as artist is to not necessarily allow the audience understand the context of the image that I am depicting, though it is part of it, but to relate and build off of their experiences as well.”

biography

“My name is Alyse Guillory and I was born on May 2, 2003 in my hometown of Lafayette, Louisiana. From a young age I was drawn to visual arts and the process of making my own little collection. I began by including figures and meaningful objects in my work, which has translated to the subjects I include currently.

Throughout my life thus far, I have experienced a plethora of bizarre events that ultimately define how my work and I are today. Within the past three years, a prevalent theme of my life has been grief, which is a topic that I am still experimenting within my body of work as of now.

I currently reside in Denton, Texas where I am enrolled in the University of North Texas, set to graduate in the spring of 2025.”
